Last Regiment Patch Update – Additions and Fixes A Plenty

It is another crunchtime week for us here at Boomzap as we are getting everything ready for the Early Access of Last Regiment. More announcements will be released in the upcoming weeks so be sure to follow our social media platforms as well as in our Discord. You are very free to discuss about it in our designated channels.

Chris is out this week so there will be no dev stream. However, our good news is that we have updated our Steam build. 

Beta Steam Build – July 29, 2019

 

Mechanic Changes

1.) Added more instances for mouseover to get additional unit or power information throughout the game.

2.) Changed the highlight color for a currently selected tile.

 

Unit Changes

1.) Unit stats have been adjusted to better differentiate units.

2.) Elite Unit bonus stats have been overhauled. For more information, the Upgrade Unit power can be hovered to reveal a Unit’s Elite Version.

3.) Reduced HP of Plant units to balance out them having passive HP regen.

 

Campaign Changes

1.) Updated/Reworked Missions 3, 4, 5, and 6 for Olivia’s Campaign.

2.) Updated tutorial text and icons for Olivia’s Campaign.

 

UI Changes

1.) Updated Emblem UI to make the samples larger and updated their groupings.

2.) Updated info popups so they use the same size and fonts.

3.) Updated Banner Elements that show up while waiting for other players in Multiplayer.

 

Bug Fixes

1.) Updated descriptions for some traits and powers for better readability. No functional change has happened.

2.) Fortification meeple indicator have been hidden until a unit actually uses the Fortify action.

3.) Fixed sliders on UI to now properly update when scrolling.

4.) Highlighted tiles now appear red when trying to summon a unit while CP capped.

5.) Fixed the issue where a card still shows it can be played even if you don’t have enough resources.

6.) Fixed certain blockers tiles not having animations (i.e. Waterfalls and Lava).

7.) Fixed issue with card target text not being updated properly.

8.) Fixed missing description for Multicard entries.

9.) Fixed issue about being able to summon more than one instance of Unique Units.

Last Regiment Blog and Patch Update 6/25/19 – The Big Beta Hubidibub

This is this week’s Big Beta Hubidibub! In this blogpost, we’re recapping last week’s Last Regiment stream(June 20), and a new patch update for the Steam Beta build. 

June 20 Stream Highlights

Last week, Chris went into detail about the die system and acknowledged that some don’t seem to get it when someone says 2d6, 2d3; and mentioned mixed feedback about the card system. All-in-all, with most audiences being unfamiliar with Dungeons and Dragons or similar dice-related games, changes to dice rolls will be made before the game gets released for Early Access. 

This stream also introduces us to Chris’ created newly catchy word Hubidibub  which means “a lot of words” or “a lot of stuff” in one place, hench the title of this post. 

Last Regiment has been a two-year project of Boomzap and Chris admits that it’s hard putting a game on Beta. He shares that while thinking of a concept for a strategy game a long time ago, he first thought of themes of the World Wars I and II, before coming up with Regiment’s colonial setting.

“This is the challenge of innovation.” Chris says on stream. There will always be risks on making a creative concept and this is the main challenge we face on Beta because there will always be people who will not like it. But with the help of the community (in this case our Discord), it helps us think of ways to make this game fun, balanced, and interesting, especially for turn-based strategy gamers. 

As we are just a couple of weeks away from Early Access, the feedback we get from our beta testers will be critical in getting Last Regiment ready upon release. 

Patch Update

Our Steam Beta build has been recently updated. Here are the things we’ve changed and added:

Game Mechanics

  • Regiment now follows a deck system instead of a weighted system.
  • Regiment can now contain 9 to 12 cards.
  • Card Rarity has been changed to Card Amount.
  • At the start of a Skirmish or Multiplayer game, players have 10 seconds to choose which cards to redraw for their first hand.

Units

  • Increased movement for all Infantry type units from 2 to 3.
  • Increased movement for all Mounted type units from 3 to 4.

Maps

  • Reduced movement cost of Flatland terrain from 2 to 1.5.

UI

  • Fixed Beta Build UI text issues on higher resolutions.
  • Updated Create Regiment UI.

Miscellaneous

  • Updated descriptions for Powers.
  • Added new visual effect for Upgrade Unit power.

Weekly Patch Update – 06/19/2019

Updates and more updates! Our Steam Build has been recently updated with some new stuff for our beta testers to try out.

As of today, we have officially closed our sign-up form for the closed beta. For those who signed up recently, expect an email from us this week for your Steam Beta key.

However, if you add Last Regiment to your wishlist right now, you’ll be one of the first to be notified on the game’s release on Steam!

Units

  • Added new hero – Warchief Hollythorn.

  • Added new units – Mammoth Howdah, Goblin on Squirrel, Mobile Aeronaut, Tethered Bomber, Peon, Ranger, Warmaster, Goblin River Trader, Spider Hussar, Attack Spider, Spider Rancher, Giant Arachnid.

Bug Fixes

  • Adjusted text size for most UI to be much more readable in different resolutions.
  • Fixed issue regarding resource counter not properly updated for Campaign missions.
  • Fixed game entering into Spectator Mode after finishing all objectives.
  • Fixed issue for Hollythorn’s campaign that allowed them to be played in any order.
  • Removed 4th mission for Hollythorn’s campaign as it is still incomplete.
